There is a lot of information out there, and it can be almost overwhelming. We here at Mission: Milspouse want to take the some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Embrace your Base series.
Here you can find information about duty stations around the country, from the the Pacific Northwest location of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, to the opposite corner of the United States at Fort Benning on the border of Georgia and Alabama, and everywhere in between. We even showcase locations in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. In total, we feature 45 locations around the globe, adding more regularly, expanding to apply to all branches.

EYB: Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Fort Sill is the only active Army installation built during the Indian Wars and is designated as a National Historic Landmark.
EYB: Fort Lee, Virginia
Fort Lee is located in Prince George County, Virginia, south of Richmond. It is the home of the United States Army Quartermaster school, the Army Ordnance school, the Combined Arms Support Command, and the Army Transportation school, among other things. It’s a location that offers four seasons, short drives to mountains and beaches, and plenty of historical cities and towns.
EYB: Fort Irwin, CA
Fort Irwin is home to the National Training Center, a major training area for the United States military, and is a census-designated place located in the Mojave Desert in northern San Bernardino County, California. It is located 37 miles northeast of Barstow, California. NTC is part of the U.S. Army Forces Command.
EYB: Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA
Known for its association with Transportation, Aviation, and the Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Eustis (as its known in the Army world) is formally called Joint Base Langley-Eustis. Developed to meet the needs of the US during World War I, the installation was temporarily transferred to the Bureau of Prisons during the Great Depression before being reactivated to meet the needs of World War II and the Cold War. It has been in continuous operation ever since. It is the home of the 7th Transportation Brigade, currently one of the Army’s most deployed brigades.
EYB: USAG Ansbach, Germany
Located in the heart of beautiful Bavaria, U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach hosts forces from both the United States and other NATO countries, with Katterbach Kaserne just ten minutes away. Bavaria’s capital, Munich, has long been home to a flourishing art scene as well as the birthplace of Oktoberfest. Ansbach’s location within Bavaria also equates to a shorter distance to both the Czech Republic and Austria.
EYB: Joint Base San Antonio
In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, known as simply Fort Sam Houston by Army folks.
JBSA is a giant installation that encompasses Fort Sam Houston and Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Field. The joint move was part of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission, which felt a combined effort would eliminate overlap from the three closely situated installations. It is the largest join base in the Department of Defense. It’s home to the Brooke Army Medical Center, which has provided crucial care to service members wounded in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq.
EYB: Fort Campbell, KY
Home of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Even though two-thirds of Fort Campbell is located in Tennessee, its post office, and therefore its official address, is in Kentucky.

EYB: Fort Gordon, GA
Fort Gordon is an installation that has a lot to offer based on its location. There is always something to do when you are only 138 miles from Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SC, about two hours from Atlanta, and 122 miles from the historic streets of Savannah, GA.
