Moving brings on a whole set of expectations, frustrations, and stress. I have yet to meet someone who looks forward to the PCS process. However, I’d like to challenge you to take a fresh perspective into your next PCS season through a new series, The Ultimate PCS Handbook: Take Command of Your Move. This series explores tips from seasoned spouses and veterans who have been there, done that.
The Gift of the Unknown: Finding Myself Again
Somewhere along the way, I’ve lost myself while entering the unknown. Military life can do that to you.
Confession: I’m STILL a Clueless Milspouse
Because my husband works for the military, our lives are unpredictable. This shocking to none of you! You know exactly what I’m talking about.
My husband is on some awkward in-between orders right now, so we’re living a life of limbo.
We moved from Wisconsin to North Carolina, but we might be back in Wisconsin in six months.
Or stay in North Carolina for the next six years.
How to Thrive as an Introverted Milspouse
My husband and I are opposites in so many ways, but most noticeably when it comes to the introverted vs. extroverted rankings.
Phil’s extroversion has played well into his military career. One time, he was staying in the barracks at Fort McCoy where there were open-bay toilets. He said he sat so close to the next man on the toilet that he could read his newspaper and joke around while each man did his “business.”
I’m still horrified!
NEW DUTY STATION: How to Stop Feeling Lonely and Lost
I’m a little more than a week into our new duty station. We arrived at Fort Bragg.
It hasn’t been an easy transition for me.
How to Find Gratitude in all Seasons
I’m thankful for military life. Sometimes it can get me down, but when I take a deeper look, there’s always a way to find gratitude in all seasons. November gives us a great opportunity to reflect upon our past year, and right now, our family is in the thick of an are-we-crazy-for-choosing-a-DITY PCS. I wrote these things down as a personal reminder of what this Army life has to offer—even in some of the more difficult seasons.
