3 Ways Your First Milspouse Friend is Significant

3 Ways Your First Milspouse Friend is Significant

Trying to make friends at a new duty station can be difficult, to say the least. It can feel like going on a series of failed blind dates before you find your person, only to find out they’re PCSing in a couple of months. It never fails. I got lucky when I found my person, my first milspouse friend. We ended up at two of the same duty stations back to back.

Coffee Shop Talk

Coffee Shop Talk

Hey there! Super stoked to be here with you all. I almost wish that we could meet up at a cool coffee shop somewhere, find a great table in a quiet area, and have low jazz playing in the background so we can carry on with great conversation while taking a much needed break.

Never Stop Trying

Never Stop Trying

More than half of 2017 is already over, and as I reflect on my New Year’s goals, I can honestly say that I wasn’t able to stick with any of them. You see, things never turn out the way we plan for them. Almost any milspouse can attest to that little life fact. The speaker held an egg delicately in one hand and a fuzzy, lime-green tennis ball in the other. Addressing the class, she asked us to imagine what would happen to the egg if she let it drop to the floor, and I wrinkled up my nose as I pictured the splat of runny yellow yolk. Moments later, the tennis ball met the same fate, only, this time, the speaker actually let it fall to the ground. Unlike the egg, the ball hit the tiles with a soft thwack, then gracefully rebounded to her open hand. We were at a resilience briefing.

A Letter to My Military Brat

A Letter to My Military Brat

On May 22, 2017, at 1:52 p.m. my first baby boy, Mark, came into the world after a 10-hour labor.

The moment I’d been dreaming of since I was a little girl began in an instant, and it hasn’t slowed down since. I’ll never forget the moment my husband and I walked into the house with that clunky infant carrier and over-packed diaper bag, looked at each other, and uttered, “Now what?”
