My husband and I recently welcomed our first child to the world, and I now find myself with much more time to reflect on life (translation: I don’t sleep anymore). As first time parents, we’re currently in the throes of the newborn phase, that trial-by-diaper, sleep-deprived state of constant cluelessness that can make even the strongest person cry like a—well—baby. In this state, I’ve realized that being a milspouse is like having a newborn.

If duty calls you to Presidio of Monterey, you’re heading to paradise! Sandy beaches, a vibrant community, and a multitude of attractions and amenities are waiting for you. The post is located near the ocean! Pebble Beach is a must-see, of course, with its world-famous golf course and beautiful coastline. Garrapata Beach is also a great option for observing local wildlife. There are over 110 species of birds living in this coastal woodland.
My husband and I have been cohabiting for a little more than a year now, and it’s been such a delight to see him as much as I have. Crazy, huh?! It was unusual for me to see him so regularly! In the past year, there were a handful of instances that the military took him away —about three months total—but, there would be long spans of time that he spent at home. I knew we would get to this point eventually and made every minute apart during our long-distance relationship worth it. Before we got married (and even shortly after our courthouse wedding), we had a full-on long-distance relationship.
Change. Some like it, some don’t. Some plan for it, others are surprised by it. It doesn’t matter if we’re prepared, looking forward to it, or blown away by it—sometimes it’s just hard to embrace your change.
