It’s me, again! Tired of me yet? No, you can’t be, because I’m amazing.
This month wasn’t the best month ever by any stretch of the imagination. I had my own personal struggles that, frankly, I’m still dealing with. However, I still managed to find something I’m thankful for every single day. I? Deserve a cookie.
For much of the world, the “war” is winding down. Military budgets are being slashed to make way for more immediately apparent domestic demands. More and more medals are being awarded to heroes for actions taken in a conflict that is quickly fading from public awareness.
Except in my home and the homes of thousands of military families.
In my home, we are living the emotional roller coaster that is the stages of pre-deployment. Not familiar with these stages? In many ways, they mimic the stages of grief.
Here is the process:
One absolute necessity for making it through this roller coaster ride we call military life is meeting our battle buddies. These are the friends who, no matter what else is happening, will drop whatever they’re doing to help you out. These are the friends that you can call (and who can call you) at any time of the day or night just to talk to you, or to keep you from banging your head against the wall (much). AWN’s co-founder Tara Crooks wrote the article, Finding Your Battle Buddy, that has suggestions on how to meet yours.
To celebrate April, Month of the Military Child, I dug out this patriotic picture of my sweet son Caden, because he was being so stinkin’ cooperative in my attempt to show just how dearly he loves his mama.
I cannot imagine how these little treasures ever got dubbed with the term “Army brat.”
It’s here! It’s finally here! As you probably know, the entire month of April is dedicated to our most amazing military children. I have collaborated with and interviewed a large number of these wonderful children and compiled a “Top 10” list to keep the positive momentum going when the road seems to never end for both the parents and children. All of these wonderful reasons are well-balanced, but feel free to pick each one and apply them to your family’s list of priorities.
From June 2011 until March 2014, I was flying solo with my budget, but this month, that all changed. Mark and I have now merged our finances and have begun budgeting together.
