Back-to-school time often makes us think of the typical activities in relation to kids: shopping for new clothes or uniforms, buying notebooks and supplies, and Meet-the-Teacher night. We ramp up to the first day of school by helping our kids get in bed earlier for a week or two, and we start thinking about healthy lunches to pack for them.

It’s a beautiful Rocky Mountain day. Seriously. I have hummingbirds dive-bombing each other at the feeder on the back porch, and there are mule deer about three feet from my living room window. The sky is that intense blue that I’ve rarely seen anywhere but up here in the mountains. There are even puffy white clouds lazily drifting past like a herd of white fluffy sheep. The aspen trees are whooshing in the breeze.
Just about everyone knows the phrase “Jack of all trades.” However, there is an ending of that quote that a lot of people forget, and that is “Master of none.”
Summer in San Francisco isn’t your stereotypical steamy, sunny California summer. In fact, August here is more accurately called “Fogust.”
Needless to say, my boots get more use than any of my summer sandals and more of my pictures on Instagram than I care to admit have some type of #iliveinacloud hashtag.
Skype, email, Facebook, texting, and phone calls, among other technology, has made keeping in touch with a deployed service member much easier. Somewhere in this mix of communication, a real handwritten letter has lost its luster.
