At least that is the dream for me.
It is less than two months away–our PCS move—and I am already starting to say goodbye to people.
Hey, if everyone keeps asking me when I am moving, I am going to assume that they don’t want me around anymore.
Yippee! Party season is upon us from Halloween to New Year’s Day. Want to have the best party? I do. I got out my planner and sat down with a fellow Household 6, my friend Tiffany. We talked about food, drinks, and decorations. Almost every day on one of the several military-focused websites, forums, and social media groups I belong to, I see mentions of how civilian family and friends “just don’t understand” military life. I’m pretty sure that at least once (and probably more!) in the years I’ve been married to my service members I’ve said the same thing.
Now that fall is in full swing and the holiday season is imminent, it becomes all too easy for our to-do’s and household chores to pile up like the leaves in the yard. Do you have a strategy for handling the mounting activities and demands?
In October, 2010, my family went through a change—a big one! My mother and father moved in with us.
My parents lived in a small town in the North Carolina mountains where my father ran his own business. He also took care of my mom, who is disabled due to degenerative bone disease. After struggling for two years to keep his small business above water, the bottom finally fell out from under him, and my parents lost their business and their home.
Dear Mr. Dad: Our son is a high-school senior. He’s a good student and wants to go to college next year. Seems odd to be worrying about this already, but there’s no way we can afford to send him to the places he’s looking at. My husband lost his job, I’m working only part time, and we weren’t able to put enough into our son’s college account as we’d hoped. What should we do?
