It’s All a Question of Balance

It’s All a Question of Balance

When we’re younger, most of us dream about the future. That doesn’t stop as we age. Many of us continue to dream about the future even as mature adults. We think about our spouse’s or our next career move, how our children will grow and develop, create that 10- or 15-year plan.

I turned 30 this year and realized I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up.

But I am a grown-up.

18 Books To Fall Into This Autumn

18 Books To Fall Into This Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of year to read a book. A hot drink, fuzzy blanket, and diving into the pages is really all I need. If you’re looking for a new book to read that may relate to military life, here are a few books for you to try. They span a variety of genres, so there is something for almost everyone. You can find them wherever books are sold.

Strong Bonds Can Lead to a Stronger Marriage

Strong Bonds Can Lead to a Stronger Marriage

If you’ve been a military spouse for a few years, you’ve probably heard about Strong Bonds retreats offered by your installation’s Religious Services Organization. If you’re newer to the milspouse life, then this may be new for you. No matter how long you’ve been married to your service member, if you can attend a Strong Bonds retreat, I highly recommend it.

My husband and I attended our first Strong Bonds retreat in August. It was such a great experience for us. We both went into the retreat hoping we could learn something, despite not having any glaring issues in our relationship.

But we did learn how to connect better.

26 OCONUS Experiences You Might Miss

Living at an OCONUS duty station is probably one of the most exciting parts of being a military family. Not everyone gets the chance, but if you ever do, seize that opportunity with both hands, even if it scares you.

There are so many wonderful things to experience, from the extensive history, to food, to traditions, and more. If you’ve ever lived at an OCONUS location, then you may know how easy it is to leave a part of yourself there.

25 Things to Love About America

25 Things to Love About America

When living overseas, it’s very easy to quickly begin missing certain things about the good ol’ US of A. It’s not that other countries necessarily “get it wrong,” but rather that it’s different from what Americans are used to. Over time, we adjust to the host nation’s culture, and it becomes our new normal.

But really, we still kind of miss certain things.

Happy Birthday, USA: An ode to my home, sweet home

Happy Birthday, USA: An ode to my home, sweet home

Hey there, America! Remember me? I know it’s been a while. For the past two years I’ve been residing in Germany, following the love of my life to yet another duty location. And as much as I love it here (and I definitely do), I often miss you.

You’re 242 years old today, Independence Day, but, my, oh my, you certainly look good. You’ve been through a lot over these past almost two and a half centuries. You’ve had your ups and downs, but I still would choose you over living almost anywhere else.

You will always be my home, sweet home.
