Don’t feel bad—many people don’t know where to start. These military social events are not as scary as you might think. Even if you don’t like coffee you should still attend because, chances are, coffee won’t even be involved. The point of this military custom is camaraderie.
When I was asked to write a blog for Memorial Day, was excited and jumped on it. Then, ten minutes later it hit me—I had no idea what I was going to write about.
What is Memorial Day, anyway? I talked to my husband, and he wasn’t even 100% sure.
I went to Google and typed in “what is M-E-” and the first suggestion was, “What is Memorial Day.”
Really.
The military child, or military brat as some call them, are a special breed of kid. They learn things and sacrifice more in life than most kids their age. With April being the Month of the Military Child, many military installations and organizations are taking time to honor and celebrate these special children.
When families work together as a team, they balance one person’s difficult time with the other family members’ strengths. Each individual in a family brings skills and personality that contribute to a family team. As a whole, a family shares a history and goals. Our family members help us through the happy, good, sad, and painful times. And in military life, where we’re frequently uprooting, having a strong family team not only makes the transitions easier, but helps the entire family prepare for each move.
