A few weeks ago my service member and I celebrated the halfway point in his overseas hardship tour! In between working and trying to plan a trip to Korea to visit during his leave time, it snuck right up on me, but here it is, and now the rollercoaster can start making the descent, back to the safety of the corral it came from, back to a (somewhat) normal life together!
Deployment
There may be no better time for empowerment than when faced with a looming deployment or when you are in the thick of one.
Join our Mission: Milspouse team as we share all our tips, lessons learned, best practices for coping, and our hearts in solidarity with you in all things deployment. Whether you are preparing for your first one or you navigating your 7th, we have the resources you need to thrive in one of the most challenging aspects of milspouse life.
Our resources span the gamut: From that first moment when your service member says “I’ve got news,” to establishing a battle rhythm in those first few weeks, to parenting solo, and to reintegrating after that homecoming kiss… We have resources to guide you every step of the way. We are raw, vulnerable, experienced, and ready to support you through this season!
Holding It Down, Solo? I Salute You!
I am a magnet for strangers who repeatedly make the following comment to me:
“Oh my, you sure have your hands full!”
Dreaming About My Husband’s Return
I’ve been dreaming about my husband’s return since the minute he left for his tour a year ago. By the time my posts goes live, we’ll have already moved my belongings from New York to Virginia and spent a few days together. It’s crazy to think that it’s all coming so quickly!
That Little Black Band
As part of a military family, the POW (Prisoner of War) and KIA (Killed in Action) bracelets are something I easily recognize.
A couple years ago, I realized that not everyone knows what they are. One morning, a college professor visiting Germany for a class asked me if I had been to the club the night before. Apparently, the clubs near his university use black bands to identify those old enough to drink. I was caught off guard, and once I showed him the three names that were engraved on it, you could tell he was caught off guard
Field Problem: Pre-Deployment Anxiety
Dear, Field Problems:
I recently found out my husband will be deploying soon. We have three children, and I’m really scared about him going. I have nightmares and crying spells, and though we’ve talked about what I would do if something were to happen, it doesn’t seem to help me feel better. How do I deal with these feelings? I’m a wreck already, and he doesn’t even leave for months. Can you help?
Signed, an anonymous Army spouse
All I Want for Christmas
Before you read any further, I need you to listen to Mariah Carey’s, “All I Want for Christmas is You” to set the mood, so to speak.
