One of the most challenging aspects of the military spouse life is preparing for an upcoming PCS, or if you get the chance, potentially picking a new duty station. There is a lot of information out there, and it can be almost overwhelming. We here at Mission: Milspouse want to take the some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Embrace your Base series.

Here you can find information about duty stations around the country, from the the Pacific Northwest location of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, to the opposite corner of the United States at Fort Benning on the border of Georgia and Alabama, and everywhere in between. We even showcase locations in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. In total, we feature 45 locations around the globe, adding more regularly, expanding to apply to all branches.

Our Mission: Milspouse Command Team and Band of Bloggers (and their milspouse tribes) have helped to compile installation-specific information to help you no matter what installation becomes your new home. We have insider details regarding local realtors, off-post health care options, specific installation information, spouse testimonials, social media connections, hidden gems of the area, and things you have to do before you leave. You can plan how to make the most of your new location before you even arrive and make connections with other spouses who are already there using social media groups.

If you have additional tips, information, connections, or personal testimonials about any of our military locations, email us via the button below to help out your fellow military spouses.

EYB: Vicenza, Italy

We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to United States Army Garrison Italy in Vicenza, Italy.

Being stationed in overseas locations like Vicenza, Italy, is unique and can be more challenging to figure out than the average stateside PCS. First, the military community of USAG Italy is made up of three installations—Caserma Ederle, Caserma Del Din, and Longare—where the soldiers work on a daily basis. There is a fourth location where families may live and which houses the schools—Villagio.

In addition to what is offered through on-post services, military families living in Vicenza have access to many resources on the Italian economy.

Most well-known for being home to the famous 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), USAG Italy and its surrounding area are filled with history, beautiful architecture, Italian culture, and abundant adventure.

EYB: Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska

We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Back in 2010, the Department of Defense merged two installations in Alaska to form Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. It’s a big place, home to large numbers of service members, families, and civilian employees. While the base is way up north, it has numerous outdoor activities to offer, as well as beautiful scenery and wildlife galore.

EYB: Fort Riley, Kansas

Fort Riley, “Home of the Big Red One,” is known for its excellent training, abundant recreational opportunities, rich history, and tremendous relations with surrounding communities. In the 1800s and into the early 1900s, Fort Riley was home to the famous “Buffalo Soldiers.” Located in North Central Kansas on the Kansas River (also known as the Kaw), Fort Riley is between Junction City and Manhattan.

EYB: Camp Merrill in Dahlonega, Georgia

We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post with the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to Camp Merrill in Dahlonega, Georgia.

The 5th Ranger Training Battalion at Camp Merrill is a unique duty station. It is located in the mountains of North Georgia near the small mountain town of Dahlonega. This duty station is where the Mountain Phase (second phase) of Ranger School takes place and is home to a single battalion.

Thus, it is referred to as a “remote” duty station since it isn’t necessarily a “full” military post. Many families who live here would describe it as living a (sort-of) civilian lifestyle on an intense Army schedule, especially for the Ranger instructors.

EYB: Fort Drum, New York

We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to Fort Drum, New York.

Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is an outdoor lover’s paradise with hunting, fishing, and hiking. It is situated thirty miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and New York City just over five hours away.

EYB: Fort Huachuca, Arizona

Located in the midst of beautiful mountain ranges in the southeastern corner of Arizona lies Fort Huachuca, the hub of U.S. Army Intelligence. It is the home of training for future intelligence soldiers, as well as the home of the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course.

The area always seems to be growing and changing, so there may be many more things you find when arriving at Fort Huachuca or Sierra Vista. Enjoy the breathtaking views of mountain ranges, the comfortable climate, and the many things to do offered by the area.
