It’s finally FALL! The season of cozy sweaters and blankets, warm beverages, and pumpkins everywhere! What better way to celebrate the season, then carving one of those many pumpkins for your perfect Halloween décor.
If you’re feeling unsure about taking on this task, Army Wife Network is here to help! We have designed a cute pumpkin stencil, and have the tips and tricks for achieving success!
Pumpkin carving tips and techniques
- Choose a larger pumpkin. The bigger the surface, the easier it will be to carve a design.
- Cut the top of the pumpkin off at a 45-degree angle so the lid will not fall through.
- When removing the seeds, try to carve the inside of the pumpkin out so the wall is about one inch thick.
- Use some tape, pushpins, or even toothpicks to secure the stencil to your pumpkin. (Toothpicks could come in handy later if a mistake is made)
- Trace the design, by pushing little holes along the lines, to make an easy guide for when the stencil is removed.
- Remove the stencil, and begin carving out the black sections. Carve slowly and away from yourself to ensure safety.
- To preserve your pumpkin for a longer period of time, spray the cut edges with a solution of water and bleach (1 part bleach to 8 parts water).
