House hunting for military families is a bit different than what our civilian counterparts go through. We’re usually working on a compressed timetable due to a PCS move, may deal with negotiations long distance, or have one spouse accomplishing much of the legwork while the other is deployed or away for duty. Whatever the reason you’ve decided to buy a home, whether it’s a long-term investment or your “forever home,” start with these seven tips for your best house-hunting experience:

A big complaint by those living in military housing is the inability to personalize their homes. This is true to an extent, but the options to temporarily tailor the space to your likes are affordable, attractive, and rapidly expanding.
There are some pretty talented and creative milspouses out there who love to share ideas on how to customize military housing. If you aren’t already part of the Facebook groups “White Walls” and “HGTV Followers Military Housing Style,” then make it happen quickly, because the imaginations these folks have are amazing!

It’s the perfect setting for the getaway trip you’ve been longing for. Suddenly, a car door opens. You realize you’ve been daydreaming again while waiting in the pick-up line outside of your child’s school!

Moving your family during a child’s high school years is hard, no question about it. For many career military families, the latest move may be one of several they’ve faced during their child’s teen years. Some families, especially those with high school juniors or seniors, may decide forcing another move on their teen is not something they’re willing to do again.
