The number of decisions we make each day is endless: What to wear, what to eat, whether we should work out, what to watch on TV, do we really need that particular item at the grocery store?
But they get bigger, too! Do I really want to spend a whole year without my service member? When do I decide to make a move in my career? When do we choose to grow our family?
CS season is upon us, and I have the PCS itch.
My family has officially been at our duty station long enough to watch familiar faces pack up and head off to new adventures. All the houses in my neighborhood are emptying out, which means that my neighbors, my people who have become my friends, confidants, and my children’s playmates are moving away, and it’s heartbreaking in so many ways.
All of us here at Army Wife Network know that April is Month of the Military Child. Interestingly, it is also Sports Eye Safety Month, National Fresh Celery Month, and International Guitar Month, but I think I’ll let someone else write about those topics.
I’m here to write about what I know and love: Military children.
In my “former life,” I was a soldier. For some reason, there is a stereotype that all, or at least most, female soldiers serve behind a desk in an office. While I don’t see why there’s an issue with that, seeing that they raised their right hand and took the oath, truthfully there are also males in office positions as well.
You’ve probably heard one of the following about the FRG:
“They’re full of bickering, back-stabbing women who will use their husband’s rank against you.”
“It’ll be a waste of your time and energy.”
“Don’t join or you’ll be sucked into doing a bunch of stuff you don’t want to do.”
Dear milspouse who is also a student…
I know your struggle, because until just a few months ago, I was that spouse. I couldn’t move with my husband when he came to a new duty station because I was in school. I couldn’t visit because I couldn’t miss any more classroom time.
