I’ve said on more than one occasion that I’m a better follower than a leader. People say I sounded like I was being self-deprecating, but I don’t see it that way.
I know myself.
I know my strengths, and I know my weaknesses. And then I became president of a spouses’ club, and all of my preconceived notions about myself went right out the window.
I’ve been dreaming about my husband’s return since the minute he left for his tour a year ago. By the time my posts goes live, we’ll have already moved my belongings from New York to Virginia and spent a few days together. It’s crazy to think that it’s all coming so quickly!
As part of a military family, the POW (Prisoner of War) and KIA (Killed in Action) bracelets are something I easily recognize.
A couple years ago, I realized that not everyone knows what they are. One morning, a college professor visiting Germany for a class asked me if I had been to the club the night before. Apparently, the clubs near his university use black bands to identify those old enough to drink. I was caught off guard, and once I showed him the three names that were engraved on it, you could tell he was caught off guard
The week before Christmas was a challenging one for me on social media. The realization that I had become so over-involved in Facebook that it could affect me for days profoundly prompted me to try a little experiment.
What if I just took a break from Facebook? After all, I didn’t have to be logged in 24/7.

I cannot stand that show. Every time I hear the theme song, it makes me want to jam crayons in my ears and glue my eyes shut.
‘Tis the season for mandatory fun. This time of year brings FRG potlucks, coffee group white elephant exchanges, and all sorts of other renditions of the same. Some are even our service member’s “place of duty” during the event. So, that means they either go alone, toting our mini cheesecakes with them and a potted plant for the gift exchange, or it means we go, too—kids and all.
