The last couple months, we here at AWN have been reflecting on some of our most memorable milspouse memories. (Be sure to catch up on Part 1 and Part 2!)
Today, we wrap up this mini-series, and you can probably guess the main topic of discussion:
Yep, you got it. Homecoming and deployments. (With a few extra bonus memories sprinkled in there.)
Once upon a time, someone started a ridiculous rumor that military spouses should be the strongest people on the planet because asking for help and verbalizing life struggles are signs of weakness. What a silly fairy tale, right? Unfortunately, so many of us (myself included) have believed this “story” to be true for much too long, and instead, took the struggling path.
Today, I want to encourage each and every one of you: If you are struggling with anything, please know that you are not alone.
Imagine this: A handful of close friends (or in our case, battle buddies) are miraculously back in the same zip code, be it for a few months or just a few moments.
You gather around the fire pit on the back patio; you pour yourself a beverage of choice. It takes only a couple of seconds before someone says it…
“Remember that time when…”
It’s no secret that many aspects of our lives, especially as military spouses, are very serious. The challenges, the unknowns, the changed no-plan plans. All of it.
If we aren’t careful, we (ahem, as in—myself) can get sucked down with a pretty negative attitude.
In the seriousness of this world, I’m on a mission to bring a little bit of humor to it, especially on social media. Because, really, my sense of humor (and my faith) are sometimes the only things that keep me going.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like our military family spends a good deal of time dreaming about the future: our next duty station, when our service member will be promoted, when the next deployment will creep up, and yes, even imagining (and sometimes dreaming about!) what life after the military will be.
Summer is here, my friends! It’s time for fun in the sun, creating new ways to entertain the kids since they’re out of school (#CanYouSaySummerCamp), and of course, vacations.
Now, if you are anything like our family, vacations are not as relaxing as they used to be. With a 4-year-old and a 4-month-old, going anywhere for an hour is sometimes level: mission impossible.
