Have you ever been told to just be positive? Optimism can deny negative emotions which simply isn’t the reality. Cling to hope and live in reality. Hope is what keeps us going, what motivates us to make it through a tough situation.

Hope is not positive or wishful thinking, rather it is having the will and the way to reach a desired outcome. It serves as an anchor when life seems out of control. Military life provides constant opportunities to nurture hope, whether through deployment, PCS, or the op-tempo of a military mission or training.

Brenda Pace is an author and speaker with a passion to bring encouragement and hope to women. Empowerment Patrol Report with Amanda B.

Today we are showcasing our AWN Empowers, Military Hearts Matter, which was nominated as an organization for helping military families.

It  began as a movement in 2013, as a series of social, educational events for military spouses. In 2020, Vega officially co-founded a non-profit organization, Military Hearts Matter (“MHM”). Together with a board, volunteers, and ambassadors of military spouses and veterans, the organization is paving the way to fully support the military heart community. Their mission is to support the military hearts who serve. For more information or ways to get involved, be sure to check out their website, militaryheartsmatter.org.

Thank you so much to Military Hearts Matter for doing your part to empower military families around the globe.

Encouragement Minute with Juanda

Encourage one another and build each other up. This is a concept that schools across the country are teaching. Fill up someone’s bucket – offer a kind gesture or word. New spouses enter the military not knowing a lot about this life. Encourage new and veteran spouses. Be the positive change you want to see.

News 6 with Jolene

Here is this week’s News 6 mashup of stories for the week of May 16, 2022, straight from AWN News 6 Correspondent, Jolene McNutt:

Water Advisory Lifted at Ft. Bliss Medical Center

William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, Texas has resolved its water contamination issue, one month after it was initially discovered, reported Stars and Stripes. “The hospital’s water has been deemed safe and an advisory was lifted.” A valve failure caused the hospital’s water softener system to introduce salty water into the water system.

Gun Safe Exempt from PCS Weight

A new PCS rule will allow service members to “ship gun safes up to 500 pounds” without it counting against their household goods weight allowance, as long as weight does not exceed 18,000 pounds, shared Military.com. “Defense Department officials said Wednesday the new benefit is part of an overall effort to encourage safe weapons storage to protect children from accidental deaths and prevent suicides or tragic outcomes from domestic violence.”

Nepali Man Breaks Record: Climbs Mount Everest 26 Times

A Nepali mountaineer broke his own world record after summiting Mount Everest for the 26th time, said NPR.org. “Kami Rita Sherpa has set and broken the world record for Everest ascents almost every spring for the past four years.” Sherpa has been climbing for over 35 years and his father was one of the first professional guides “when Nepal began allowing international climbers in 1950.” Sherpa began working as a porter transporting gear to Everest’s base camp at age 12.
