Being a military spouse is hard. Trying to have a career in this constantly changing military family life is difficult. Throw in being employed in an occupational licensed career field and it is difficult to maintain employment as we continue down our path as a military spouse.
I am with you. Throughout most of my 16-year marriage I have worked in the real estate industry, in both licensed and unlicensed positions. Our family has made tough decisions to keep my career on track.

We’d just arrived at my husband’s new duty station, and my time was filled with getting kids settled into routines, figuring out housing, and completing all the miscellaneous, time-consuming tasks that go along with an overseas move. When our days in temporary lodging stretched into weeks, I decided to fill some of my empty hours with finishing an online editing course I’d put off. It ended up breathing new life into the remote work I’d started a couple years earlier, and I was happily surprised to have new jobs lined up before we even moved into our house.
It’s not always that seamless.
Transitioning into a post-military life is full of emotions for both service members and their families. Leaving behind a position surrounded by so much purpose and camaraderie can leave you feeling lost or out of place. It can be overwhelming and daunting to start afresh in a completely new environment. It can be discouraging as you face difficulties, especially if they are financial.
Luckily, regardless of the stress that comes with such a big life transition, there are many resources that can help make that change easier. One such resource is Hope For The Warriors’ new military-centered job search program: Warrior’s Compass.
Located at the foot of Franklin Mountains lies Fort Bliss, Texas, the hub of the US Army 1st Armored Division. It is the home of training future Sergeant Majors, as well as the home of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, 5th Armored Bridge, and 93rd Military Police Battalion. The area always seems to be growing and changing, so there may be many more things you find when arriving at Fort Bliss and surrounding El Paso Area. Enjoy the breathtaking views of mountain ranges, the near year-round sunshine and the many things to do offered in the area.
