Health & Fitness
Even under the best of circumstances, striking a balance between “real life” and focusing on health and fitness is no easy task. Fold in military spouse life, and it kicks that challenge up a notch!
This category will give you insight from a milspouse perspective, including workouts, celebrating victories (large and small), and how to put your health as a priority, no matter what milspouse life throws your way.
Trust us. These great resources will make you “sit-up” and take notice. Don’t “weight” too long or “waist” any time. “Run” through these blogs. We are serious. “Jump” to it.
PS: Don’t skip leg day.
Your Running Program, One Year Later
The fitness environment has changed since last year, including the running atmosphere. Take a few moments to reflect on your family, work, and social life. You had to rearrange your life which my have included that of being a teacher. At the onset COVID-19 was thought of being a pandemic overseas. It was only a matter of time before it reached U.S. soil. As the weeks passed, the freedom of movement was curtailed as health protocols were put into place, which included closing gyms. Now, over a year later, things are finally turning around.
Combating the Blues
A major life change, like a PCS, can sometimes send us into an emotional tailspin. Without the anchors that familiarity brings, our lack of control and a sense of not belonging can produce feelings of the blues or depression.
Where to Find Mental Health Support
The month of May is both Military Appreciation Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. That they both fall in the same month may be coincidental, but it is a totally appropriate pairing.
To truly appreciate former and present members of our military, we need to understand the mental health challenges they face.
Eating Disorders Among Men: You Are Not Alone
In the U.S. alone, there are 30 million people who have a diagnosed eating disorder. Ten million of those people identify as male (as of 2021). Eating Disorder professionals suspect that even more adult and teenage men have eating disorders than this, but stay silent. Are you one of these silent sufferers? Are you worried your male loved one might be?
How to Cope with Milspouse Anxiety
I have always considered myself to be a Type A personality. I have a penchant for schedules and details and a dislike of chaos and running late. The thought of missing a deadline at school or work is enough to send my heart racing. Lists and calendars bring me inner peace, while last-minute plans give me a stomachache. Some might say, kindly, that I am just a driven, focused woman. However, after more than 30 years of living and nearly a decade as a milspouse, I have to give credit for these behaviors to a different cause entirely.
Anxiety.
