Fast Facts: Our podcast is carrying on the legacy of Army Wife Talk Radio as the longest-running podcast of its kind. 2023 marks its 13th year on the air, and we will broadcast our 1000th episode as well!

The Command Team creates TWO podcasts per week, one full-length edition on Mondays with a featured guest, then a shorter variety (Mini-Cast) on Thursdays sharing their personal experiences. Tune in on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon, or even on our website.

AWTR Show #705: Burn Victim and Overcomer: Zachary Sutterfield

Zachary Sutterfield grew up in a strong military household as both of his parents were service members. He planned to attend college to become a teacher…but then the unthinkable happened. Zach transferred to Texas State University and within 10 days, his apartment complex was purposefully set afire.

Five individuals lost their lives in the fire (two of whom were Zach’s roommates), and Zach himself sustained life-threatening injuries, including burns to more than 69% of his body and a traumatic brain injury. Although he was only given a 20% chance to live, he overcame all odds. More than a year later, Zach continues to recover and share his story.

Do you have a soft spot in your heart for all things canine? Then don’t miss this show! We chat with Amanda Baity, Director of Operations for Semper K9. This organization rescues dogs from shelters and trains them to be service dogs at no cost for disabled service members. Founded in 2014, Amanda and her husband, Christopher, have been working to expand their mission to serve disabled veterans. They’ve since been featured on a variety of media outlets, including NPR, HuffPost, and People magazine. Listen to their story about veterans and the dogs that serve them.

AWTR Show #700: The USO/Maxwell House Video Series

Of those the USO serves, military spouses are one of the most overlooked groups, with an unemployment rate of at least four times higher than the national average, according to the company. Maxwell House and the USO are shining a light on the stories of hard-working military spouses by underscoring the unique needs and challenges they face. Through the generosity of Maxwell House, military spouses will be supported through programs like USO Pathfinder and Coffee Connections. Additionally, they’ve created a video series addressing the military spouse unemployment issue and Lakesha Cole, a Jacksonville business woman and military spouse, was recently featured in the national Maxwell House video. She’s here to talk more about the USO/Maxwell House video series.
