PCS

If you are PCSing this year, then you’ve come to the right place!

Here at Mission: Milspouse, we’ve faced our fair share of relocations, DITYs, government moves, overseas stints, and everything in between. We’ve been there and done that, and we have the stickers to prove it.

With all that experience, we know how stressful it can be. Packing and loading mean moving all of your belongings—special things, irreplaceable things—and none of us really want things broken or damaged. While we can’t ensure there won’t be casualties of PCS, we can help you prepare to make the move a little smoother.

Check out all of our blog post pertaining to all things PCS. Get ready for some practical tips AND insight into experiences of those who have been there, moved that.

Reflecting on Luck

Reflecting on Luck

Third time’s a charm. I’ve been sitting here, stumped on how to start getting words on this page, next to my husband who has now motioned three times toward my computer. Silently cheering me on, supporting me, generally adding to the evidence of why I know I’m lucky.

There are always little things that seem lucky, like that time I won a free drink from the vending machine at work or when I won the bingo game that scored us a free four-day pass for my husband, already signed by his command to use whenever he liked.

Now What?: Settling in after a PCS

Now What?: Settling in after a PCS

You and your family are settling in after a PCS. If the kids are in school, you may find yourself with hours to fill in a town where no one knows you and you’re still learning your way around. If your kids are schooling remotely or you’re homeschooling, you have less time for yourself, but you know you still need to take action to begin to feel at home in your new surroundings. Involve your kids in this process!

While you may be tempted to stay within the security of your four walls, you know that will only add to your loneliness and delay the process of helping this feel more like home.

3 Ways Buying a Home During the Pandemic is Different

3 Ways Buying a Home During the Pandemic is Different

Did you ever think you’d be trying to buy a house during a worldwide pandemic? As crazy as it seems, real estate transactions have barely slowed over the last 12 months. You’re not the only one who thinks it’s a great idea to buy a home right now. As spring approaches, military families are joining the masses to find their next hometown.

While the traditional sequence of events for buying a house remains, there are many changes that have occurred. From donning a mask and shoe coverings, to entering an open house showing, to signing the dotted line online, you’ll encounter some annoying and beneficial adjustments.

Dreaming of Warmer Weather

Dreaming of Warmer Weather

I have a confession to make:

I’m ready for winter to be over.

That realization hit me hard the past two weeks. I’ve been dreaming of summer here lately. We had a warm spell in Alaska, and by warm, I mean in the 20s. Never in my life did I think I’d be saying 20 degrees is warm, but here I am.

Confronting the Changes in Your Life

Confronting the Changes in Your Life

Growing up in a military family as a daughter, and then marrying a military man, has given me great insight and understanding of the word change. I learned that a PCS is a physical move, and with a PCS comes a change on many levels—a change of duty station, a change of climate, a change of housing, a change of friends, a change in a marriage relationship, a change of schools for children, and the huge life-change that comes with deployment of a spouse. Other major life changes we may face include retirement, downsizing, divorce, death of a loved one, health issues, or a broken relationship.

For many women, change is expected, anticipated, and planned. For others, change is unexpected, challenging, and an emotional struggle. Change is a small word with a big impact. Sometimes we are blindsided by what’s coming, other times we hit it head on. We either react or respond. Here are some common reactions to change.
