NBC Nightly News reported this week that home prices are rising faster than they have since the peak of the housing bubble in 2006. Pair this with low home inventory, rising rental rates and more first-time buyers and we have frenzy in the housing market. But buying a home under pressure can quickly lead to the path of buyer’s remorse. For military families, this pressure can be intensified due to the need to find housing near their next duty station in a moments notice.
PCS
If you are PCSing this year, then you’ve come to the right place!
Here at Mission: Milspouse, we’ve faced our fair share of relocations, DITYs, government moves, overseas stints, and everything in between. We’ve been there and done that, and we have the stickers to prove it.
With all that experience, we know how stressful it can be. Packing and loading mean moving all of your belongings—special things, irreplaceable things—and none of us really want things broken or damaged. While we can’t ensure there won’t be casualties of PCS, we can help you prepare to make the move a little smoother.
Check out all of our blog post pertaining to all things PCS. Get ready for some practical tips AND insight into experiences of those who have been there, moved that.
10 PCS Lessons I Never Learn
You would think that six moves in seven years of being a military spouse, I’d have started to figure out this whole PCS process.
You would be thinking wrong.
PCS Lessons I Learned From My Dogs
This past few months we, The Crooks, have been PCSing to our new duty station.
Yes, I said “few months” because, frankly, it’s taken that long from start to finish to finally feel like we’re actually moved.
During the PCS I worried about my animals—a lot. What were they thinking? Were they scared? Were they nervous? Where would they sleep? How would we keep their eating schedule? Would they understand?
Playgrounds and PCS
Well, the summer is in full swing here in Augusta, Georgia, and when our kiddo isn’t at the pool or running through the fountains at the park, he can be seen swinging through the air on the monkey bars or being twirled in circles on the merry-go-round. While he is relatively care-free playing with his friends and delving into many books at the library, I have been struggling with how to prepare him for yet another move at the end of the summer.
Landlord, Prepare for Your New Tenants
Military families prepare for a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) by making lists—many of them. At the top of every list is at least one item that embodies some aspect of military housing, whether it is notifying your landlord of your departure, renting or selling your current home, or securing housing at your next military installations.
Healthy Parenting During a PCS
My family and I are currently in the home stretch of my husband’s third deployment. As I make arrangements for our PCS move from Virginia to Texas, minus my husband, Military OneSource continues to hold my hand through it all. The resources and advice found on their website blow my mind because I do not remember this wonderful and infinite information rainbow being available during our first deployment several years ago. Then again, I had everything figured out back in the day when we were military newbies!
