Confessions of a Former Business Owner
I’ve just recently launched a new business, but this is not my first time at the business ownership rodeo. I have felt the unadulterated joy of a first sale and the unmitigated devastation of closing a business. So I thought I might share some lessons learned, some of those hard-knock, shoulda-woulda-coulda ideas that might have made a difference the first time around.
8 Essential Business Rules for Military Spouses
If you’re thinking about starting your own business or already have one in the works, here are eight essential business rules that you should know:
1. Start with a plan
A good business plan ensures you are thinking through every aspect of your business: From your business name to your finances. A plan for a milspouse-run business is essential because of consistent transition from one duty station to another.
After the Job interview
You did it. You landed and survived a job interview. Yay you!
While you might be tempted to take a break, don’t. Now is the time for you to double your efforts.
Field Problem: Military Spouse Employment
Dear, Field Problems:
I am a new Army spouse, and I want to fulfill my career aspirations. We will go to our post in a couple of months. Do you suggest that military spouses look for a job before they get to their installations? Are there programs (on- or off-post) that help spouses find employment?
Tiffany; Fort Richardson, AK; Army spouse
Field Problem: Career Conundrum
Dear, Field Problems:
My husband was recently brought back on active duty, so I have become a full-time military spouse. He will be continuing his training at Fort Bragg in a couple of weeks. Prior to my husband being called back to active duty, I worked as a teacher with a master’s degree. Now I am wondering what I can do to get a job on the installation, either teaching or otherwise. Whom would I contact for employment help at Fort Bragg? Also, what is your opinion—is it better to work on or off post? Any help you could pass along will be very helpful.
Emily; en route to Fort Bragg, NC; military spouse
