I should start with a disclaimer that if you are looking for all our Italian posts to be rainbows and sunshine with all the fabulous places we are traveling to, then this particular post may not be for you. Our real life is not complaining, pessimism, or whining but it is real so please proceed with caution and no judgment.
EYB: Grafenwoehr, Germany
We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to Grafenwoehr, Germany, part of United States Army Garrison Bavaria.
Grafenwoehr is the hub of United States Army Garrison Bavaria, which includes Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels, and Garmisch. It is located in Germany in the beautiful state of Bavaria. Not only does the installation offer a unique military experience, it also offers the chance to discover Germany and other European countries in the area. You are only a short drive from Czech, Poland, and Austria, and can drive, fly, or take a train to a number of other locations. Moving overseas can be daunting, but don’t let it scare you. You will have the unique opportunity to partake in German customs and traditions, learn a new language (or at least some of it), and experience the food.
PCS Stress-less
I cringe a little every time I see a military spouse post something on a Facebook page that says something like, “Okay, ladies, first PCS here. What do I need to know?”
I don’t internally cringe because it’s a bad or inappropriate question, only that it’s so dang open-ended. Most seasoned spouses can give you hours of tips and advice on a variety of different parts of a PCS.
EYB: Vicenza, Italy
We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to United States Army Garrison Italy in Vicenza, Italy.
Being stationed in overseas locations like Vicenza, Italy, is unique and can be more challenging to figure out than the average stateside PCS. First, the military community of USAG Italy is made up of three installations—Caserma Ederle, Caserma Del Din, and Longare—where the soldiers work on a daily basis. There is a fourth location where families may live and which houses the schools—Villagio.
In addition to what is offered through on-post services, military families living in Vicenza have access to many resources on the Italian economy.
Most well-known for being home to the famous 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), USAG Italy and its surrounding area are filled with history, beautiful architecture, Italian culture, and abundant adventure.
Christmas Memory Making: Hotel Edition
As I write this, I’m looking around my current duty station house with the packers scheduled to arrive in less than four days. It’s Dec. 8, and we’re PCSing for our first OCONUS move before Christmas, which means we’ll be living in a hotel over the Christmas holiday.
5 Reasons You Should Visit European Christmas Markets

Hotel Living: Not as Romantic as It Sounds
We have begun our three-month stay at Fort Jackson. At first I thought, my hubby and me, on an extended “vacation,” no chores, no cooking. Just me and my honey hanging out in a hotel room together—how romantic!
Um, no.
AWTR Show 553: Economical Excursionists
On this week’s empowering episode of Army Wife Talk Radio, we’re chatting with guest, LeAnna Brown about Economical Excursionists.
5 Essentials Attitudes for Moving Overseas
When moving overseas with the military, there are numerous resources dedicated to helping you with the nitty-gritty details: what to pack, what to leave behind in storage, your household goods weight allowance, information about moving with a pet, and even point-by-point details of how to prepare and ship your vehicle. Your overseas sponsor should help you with practical information about the area ahead of time and logistics as you arrive in country.
