30 Days of Fitness: Virtual Challenge

30 Days of Fitness: Virtual Challenge

To say I’m excited about the Hope For The Warriors Memorial Day 30×30 Virtual Fitness Challenge is a bit of an understatement. Sure, sure, I know you’re saying, “Of course you are. It’s your job.”

Well, you’re right, or at least partially right. I am the Sports and Recreation Manager at Hope For The Warriors, and this program is part of my job.

How I Became an Army Spouse: Alika Schwartz

How I Became an Army Spouse: Alika Schwartz

I grew up in a military household. I learned early that “Home is where the Army sends you.” Although I didn’t have traditional stability, I am fortunate that many of my dad’s career assignments included repeat stops in Oklahoma, Virginia, and Washington, where I grew accustomed to some familiarity with my surroundings. Nevertheless, shopping at the commissary, the post exchange, and even attending church at the main post chapel seemed normal to me, not Martin’s, K-Mart, or the local Baptist church. The Army Wife lifestyle is something that I always thought about: traveling, Hail and Farewells, deployments, and even the frequent PCS.

However, my journey to become an Army spouse didn’t happen exactly as I imagined!

USO MVP Events Inform, Entertain, Inspire Military Community

Just over one year ago, the world changed. We were thrust into a global pandemic, and we had to adapt to social distancing, staying home, and spraying disinfectant on every surface. We tried to navigate this “new normal.”

Amid this challenging year, nonprofits needed to pivot from business as usual and find innovative ways to fulfill their important missions. At the USO, a nonprofit organization that has supported America’s service members and military families for 80 years, we had to innovate our programs to this new virtual environment.

I’ve Been There: Reflections on Mental Health Stigma

I’ve Been There: Reflections on Mental Health Stigma

When I meet with individuals seeking support at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Hope For The Warriors, located in Jacksonville, North Carolina, I truly understand their situation. I’ve been there!

I’m the outreach manager for the clinic, which offers mental health services for post-9/11 veterans and military families. In February, our clinic also started treating active-duty service members.

Currently, our services are provided virtually through Cohen Veteran Network (CVN) Telehealth face-to-face video therapy across the state of North Carolina. When pandemic restrictions are lifted, we will also offer in-person sessions in our newly renovated 5,300-square-foot clinic in Jacksonville.
