Field Problem: In Honor Of

Dear, Field Problems:

Do you have a calendar of all the military recognition days, weeks, and months? For example, Military Spouse’s Day is the Friday before Mother’s Day, National Military Month is May, etc. Or do you have a link that would give me those? Or do you have it handy on your site?

Yes, it’s that time of year when I get a little nostalgic. The time of year when Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day all come within a few months of each other. It’s as if I have a sense of standing for those who have gone before us and those who are currently serving this country. I find myself frustrated if I attend a service on these days that doesn’t focus on America and all that goes along with freedom and sacrifice. My husband and I have walked out of meetings when the focus has been on life as usual during these times, when the recognition and honor should have been placed on the American spirit and those who fight and sacrifice to defend it.

How to Teach Kids About Veterans Day

How to Teach Kids About Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a great time to educate your children about the history of this holiday and the sacrifice and dedication of our veterans. So, how do you celebrate this holiday in a creative and constructive way with your children?

Here are a few ideas, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs and EducationWorld.com:

Everything I Learned, I Learned from the Army

I say a lot that I have the Army to thank for everything that I am and everything I’m not. That goes for my years in high school and college ROTC, basic training and AIT, my years in service, and my years as a milspouse.

Some might say I’m naive—not the right word—but I’m “taken” for sure, enamored with the overarching principle of selfless service that embodies today’s all-volunteer Army. They and their families are the best.
