The new year has been rung in, and the resolutions are in full effect. I have made my resolutions for a better and improved Amanda in 2015. I have also made a list of resolutions I know I won’t be keeping. I would love to keep these wonderful resolutions, but I won’t, and that is perfectly and wonderfully okay.
Here are three resolutions I won’t be keeping:
1. Keep my house clean.
My house probably won’t stay clean this New Year. I really want it to. I want to come home every day to a clean house and see it sparkle and shine. In reality, my home will most likely have Barbies on the floor, baby dolls strategically placed all over my couch, and an unknown substance on the kiddy table. I Amy not spend my free time scrubbing away, but I will be spending it making memories with my kid.
2. Be a perfect mom.
I will make mistakes, and I will be far from a perfect mom…and that’s okay. Being a mom on my own can be extremely difficult, to say the lease. There are wonderful days, but there are also many days that aren’t. Each year gets a little tougher, because with each milestone that passes, we miss Toby every more (it doesn’t seem possible to miss him an ounce more, but every year that he isn’t here, I get proved wrong). Lexie’s 3-year-old- mind will ask more questions, and I will continue to be at a loss on how to explain adult concepts, like death, to a toddler. I will try my best, and I hope that my best is good enough. I will try to be a perfect mom, and I Amy fall short, but that is okay, too. I will run low on patience, sleep, and even answers, but I won’t run low on love and the knowledge that this perfect little girl is my very own piece of Toby. That’s what matters.
3. Finish my to-do list.
I’m pretty sure that my to-do list will never be complete, mostly because I keep adding it. I will be improving my surroundings and myself on a regular basis. I may cross off everything on one list, but I will always have another list to do. I know that I’m a work in progress, which is okay.
