A PCS “Ode of Thanks”

PCSOn the long winding road of a PCS journey,

We must find many places to at night lay our heads.

Hotels are too full, and cost more than our stipend,

Or, our family has grown and there’s not enough beds.

What a challenge it is to find a decent inn.

And the long rides on our own quickly grow old!

So when we know we are driving through familiar lands,

We connect with those loved ones among the folds.

We are thrilled to accept whatever they have.

A spare bed, a couch, or sometimes a camper!

Great conversations over delicious homemade meals,

Free laundry, lively games, we get so pampered.

To be in a familiar home, and breathe in the comforting scent,

Adults gathering in the family kitchen, the kids running on fresh cut lawns.

Warm showers in clean bathrooms, then the kids take over the beds.

It’s okay I’m left with the floor, we’re all at peace through dawn.

Awakened by the smell of coffee, a rooster’s crow, or maybe a busy side street.

It doesn’t matter where we are, we feel blessed by these special visits.

We share one more meal, load up our things,

Then see-ya-laters and lots of kisses.

For just a short time during these continuous moves,

We can take a nice break and want for nothing more.

When my family is in company with great friends on the road,

It lightens our spirits and refreshes our core.

We don’t always plan where our roads will lead,

So sometimes it’s a quick visit, and sometimes a spontaneous overnighter.

Your flexibility and generosity always welcome in our crazy crew.

And it makes the stressful days of PCSing feel so much lighter.

Thank you, friends and family for sharing your beautiful spaces!

Our time together was unforgettable, and we will forever remain close.

We appreciate all you have done to help us on our way.

Your friendship, prayers, and time for us is what we will remember most.
