I am beyond thrilled to kick off this new adventure as your Executive Director for Mission: Milspouse. Buckle up, because we’re about to embark on a journey filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unwavering support for military spouses around the globe.
Now, picture this: A National Guard spouse, attempting to navigate the maze of military life, armed with determination and a GPS that seems to have taken a coffee break.
That’s me – Juliana, your new captain of chaos (or Executive Director, as the job description insists).
I married my husband, Tyler, in 2016 in which he had already been in the Colorado Army National Guard for 2 years.
Since we’ve been married, we’ve had two children, Mattis (6) and Miley (2) and we have started a small dog zoo with our three fur babies Sadie, Bluey, and Bailey Sue.
We have survived deployments and then COVID (wow, was that a transition struggle after a year long deployment), we have made it through many drill weekends and annual trainings and to be blunt – it has been flipping hard.
But while it has been hard, lonely, frustrating, confusing, and overwhelming, being a milspouse has also brought me a great sense of self worth, strength, and how to be flexible (#noplanplan).
As a National Guard spouse, I quickly discovered that finding a military community was a bit like searching for the holy grail – elusive and shrouded in mystery.
It’s not that the community didn’t exist; it’s just that it seemed to be playing an epic game of hide-and-seek. So, I donned my invisible cloak of determination and set out on a quest to locate my fellow military merrymakers.
Now, let’s throw a curveball into the mix – I’m also a working mom.
Yes, because raising kids and trying to maintain a semblance of adulting sanity while being a military spouse wasn’t challenging enough.
I’m the mom who’s mastered the art of diaper changes during deployment calls, and I’ve held impromptu office meetings with a toddler on one hip and a cat running across the keyboard.
Who said multitasking was overrated?
But here’s the secret weapon in my arsenal: humor.
Because when life throws you a curveball, what’s better than catching it with a hearty laugh? I’ve learned to find the funny in the chaos, and I’m here to bring a splash of humor to Mission: Milspouse.
After all, laughter is the secret sauce that turns challenges into anecdotes and struggles into punchlines.
But most importantly, we’ll be a community that laughs together, supports each other, and triumphs over adversity with a shared sense of humor. Because, let’s face it, if we can’t find the funny in military life, we might as well join the circus!
My only remaining question is for all the Military spouses is……..How can I help?
With excitement and gratitude,
Juliana Hauska, Executive Director
