All of the content is brought to you by empowered experience volunteer bloggers and insightful expert bloggers. You name a topic that a military spouse or organization could write about, we’ve probably got it. Current topics include PCS, deployment, parenting, finances, solidarity, humor, milspouse experiences, expert advice, and more. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you can always join us as a blogger to share your story!
Yep, it’s true. Deployments are one of the hardest (and lamest!) parts of military spouse life.
But in true milspouse fashion, we don’t have time to wallow in the challenge. Sure, we can give ourselves permission to feel bummed out about it, but we just can’t park there for too long. After all, our kids need to be fed and stuff, so we have to actually do the things.
I’m thankful that maintenance came and fixed the oven door
I’m thankful that there’s no carpet lining our dining room floor
I’m thankful that our table fits this house’s weird layout
And that the china survived another move despite my fears and doubts
I worry about the strangest things.
My husband is forever shaking his head (and maybe even rolling his eyes) over some of the stuff I get worked up about. We even have a favorite movie scene that gets bantered back and forth between us:
There’s something about the glamorous life of Hollywood that makes most people beg for more. We want to know #AllTheThings and #MeetAllThePeople because, come on, it’s Hollywood!
If you ask me to describe the military spouse life, my responses would vary but they would be primarily positive (sure, I’m biased). I might say it’s informative. Challenging. Never ever boring. A great opportunity for personal growth. But glamorous? Not really in my top 10 responses to describe this particular military spouse’s life.
Happy November! This is one of my most thankful ones yet. I am so grateful for November this year. Especially today, November 3rd.
Today is my one year anniversary of my first “Blog Day!” Blog Day! gets its own exclamation point, not just that sentence overall. You know, because you can’t say, “blog day,” without emotion. That would just be wrong.
Blog Day! is the third of every month for me–the day that these words I am writing get pushed out and shared with an audience.
November, 3, 2017 marks the day my writing published on AWN for the very first time. I dubbed the day Blog Day! and over the past year my little personal holiday has never disappointed me.
I just can’t help it. I am absolutely stoked to have this opportunity. So, I’d like to say thank you. Thanks for the chance, for this moment, and this creative outlet. Thanks for this connection to anyone who may have enjoyed any of the over 12,000 words I’ve written over this past year. I wrote them for you, and I wrote them for me!
Growing up is hard to do.
I’m not just talking about the awkward seasons of puberty (ugh!) or those painful moments of high school. It isn’t all about those puff paint shirts or the bird-nest bangs in every school picture.
Growing up as a military spouse is no easy task.
