“12 Strong” Movie: AWN Goes to Hollywood

“12 Strong” Movie: AWN Goes to Hollywood

The alarm went off. My bleary eyes slowly focused on the time—3:45 a.m.

There are few things that will get me up before the sun: my crying baby, saying yet another see-ya-later to my beloved infantryman before a duty-required departure, or in this case, an opportunity to screen the new Warner Bros. movie, “12 Strong,” in Hollywood, California.

How to Get Exploring with a FREE National Park Pass

One of my resolutions for 2018 is to take advantage of more opportunities available to us as military families. I’m grateful for discounted travel resources which help us stretch our budget and open doors to explore places we might not have otherwise. First up: the America the Beautiful Annual National Park Pass—military edition. This is an $80 value (and is renewable!) offered for free to military members and dependents. This includes active duty as well as Reserve and National Guard members.

EYB: Vicenza, Italy

EYB: Vicenza, Italy

We here at Army Wife Network want to take some of the guesswork out of the need-to-knows about duty stations around the globe. Hence, our Post With the Most series. In this particular blog, we will be showcasing information related to United States Army Garrison Italy in Vicenza, Italy.

Being stationed in overseas locations like Vicenza, Italy, is unique and can be more challenging to figure out than the average stateside PCS. First, the military community of USAG Italy is made up of three installations—Caserma Ederle, Caserma Del Din, and Longare—where the soldiers work on a daily basis. There is a fourth location where families may live and which houses the schools—Villagio.

In addition to what is offered through on-post services, military families living in Vicenza have access to many resources on the Italian economy.

Most well-known for being home to the famous 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), USAG Italy and its surrounding area are filled with history, beautiful architecture, Italian culture, and abundant adventure.

I’ve come to call the time I parent alone “solo-parenting.” I know some people consider it “single parenting,” but I think that misses the mark. Milspouses are fortunate enough to have financial and emotional support from a spouse, unlike actual single parents.

But we certainly do parent solo for a period of time while our service members attend school, go on temporary duty, or depart for a deployment.

Home for Christmas

Home for Christmas

“My leave’s been approved.”

Such a sweet string of words for any milspouse to hear, and the beginning of yet another military countdown.

The days that followed consisted of lists, prioritizing, planning, and goal setting; everything was entered into my calendar. What could go wrong, right? Well, as any seasoned milspouse knows… lots!
