One of the most important parts of supporting your service member as they serve our country is “holding down the fort” (See also: running a smooth, loving, and supportive home life for you and your family, while keeping all things going in your service member’s absence). Easy peasy, right? Sometimes, not so much.

With this category, we cover everything behind the scenes, such as organization, communication, marriage, parenting, overcoming trials, and just some good ole fashioned humor.

Join us as we embark on figuring out the home-life balance as a milspouse and find ways to thrive and excel! No matter what your life at home looks like, one of our Experience Bloggers or Command Team members has probably been in a similar situation and is here to share their triumphs, lessons, and laughs along the way.

New Mother Must Return to Work Soon

New Mother Must Return to Work Soon

Dear Mr. Dad: My husband and I just had a baby two months ago. I’ve been off work under the Family Leave Act until now and would like to take the remaining four or five weeks. But, unfortunately, we really need my salary to make ends meet. The prospect of leaving my baby (my husband needs to work full-time too) is making me miserable. I’m feeling like a terrible mother and I have no idea what I can do to feel better about this situation.

Spring is definitely in full swing in the Pacific Northwest. One thing that comes along with this renewal is spring cleaning, and clearing out the clutter and lifting some of the weight away from your shoulders and your life.

10 Neglected Spring Cleaning Spots

We move a lot—that’s a given! But every time you move, you get a new space, a new place to clean in the spring and the fall, and a new environment to deal with. Every year I find myself missing some things in my week of spring cleaning and having to go back and redo those forgotten items that I didn’t have to worry about last year.

6 Tips for Social Media Safety

More than likely, nearly everyone you know is on one social media site or another. You may have a spouse on Twitter, a best friend on Instagram, and maybe even a grandparent on Facebook. These sites have become almost essential parts of our lives. We often find ourselves scanning social media, reading breaking news, and staring at our various devices for hours out of the day, and while social media can amuse us, distract us, connect us, inform us, improve us, and help us, the reality is that it can also harm us. Social media safety should be something we all consider.

4 Tips for Psychological Spring Cleaning

It’s finally spring! The snow is melting, the trees are budding, and the breeze actually has a hint of warmth in it. You know what that means: time to throw open the windows and air everything out! While I do plan on literally opening the windows and airing out my house—and have, in fact, had the windows open for the better part of a week—something else I have to do is air out my mind for a psychological spring cleaning.
