Military spouses are the most resilient people I’ve ever met.
It’s funny that I never used the word “resilient” until becoming a military spouse myself. After making many friends from various duty stations, I’ve learned that military spouses are tough—the exact definition of resilient—because of the always-evolving life situations thrown at us.

If you’ve been to any kind of ceremony on Fort Riley lately, you’ve probably heard something similar to that. This year, 2017, the 1st Infantry Division celebrates its 100th anniversary, and it’s not to be outdone.
Imagine this: A handful of close friends (or in our case, battle buddies) are miraculously back in the same zip code, be it for a few months or just a few moments.
You gather around the fire pit on the back patio; you pour yourself a beverage of choice. It takes only a couple of seconds before someone says it…
“Remember that time when…”
I’ve been a writer for about as long as I can remember. It all started when I was a kid.
I used to spend hours on my parents’ old Compaq computer, writing page after page of silly stories, ranging from magical paints and talking dragons, to fun poems about a wizard. I would print them out and pass them off to my mother, who was my own personal editor. She would mark my mistakes and I would eagerly return to the keyboard and correct them, later proudly presenting her with my finished copy.
It was mostly a hobby back then, and I never knew what I would do with it in the future. I had numerous teachers who helped groom my skills, and I eventually decided that journalism would be my future. I graduated with an English degree focusing in journalism in 2010.
I’m part of several military spouse groups, as many of you probably are. While I don’t always engage, I’ve learned a bit from watching the interactions members have with each other.
There’s one question I see over and over again that I almost always chime in on, not because I think I know better than someone else, but because I believe it’s a shame that these services aren’t promoted, few know they exist, and therefore service members and their families suffer.
