National Geographic brought us to Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia, to spend some time with two elite Air Force units featured in the special. Valdosta is located in Southern Georgia, just a couple of minutes from the Florida line. Valdosta became the home of Moody Air Field in 1942. Known today as Moody AFB, it is home to about 8,200 military service members and their families, as well as 375 civilian employees who work on the base.

I’m Okay with the Pain: Life as a Disabled Vet
One morning in December, while visiting my in-laws, I had a morning from hell.
I woke up (that’s a good start) and couldn’t put my feet on the floor (that’s not).
I mean, I couldn’t.
You Need Love (And a Whole Lot More)
I’m as big a fan of The Beatles as any, but as of late, I find myself wondering if the Fab Four ever met a real life military family before writing that all too popular tune!
Love is all you need.
Not-So-Serious Business
In every single one of my husband’s professional Army pictures, he looks so…
…angry. (You thought I was going to say handsome, didn’t you? He does look handsome, but in a grouchy kind of way.)
I’m Thankful For My Milspouse Mom
At the very beginning of my dating journey with my husband, I took a lot of what I experienced as a military child to mind. The lifestyle wasn’t new to me. I understood (for the most part) what the life entailed, and I still went along with it. Despite knowing the everchanging environment, I thought that being a military child was enough to get my through it.
I was wrong.
