As a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina my whole life, (better known as Fort Bragg in the military world) I should have known what it was like to be part of the Army. But growing up around it did not necassarily give me that insight.
He risks his life for people he doesn’t even know, imagine what he’ll do for me. This is one of the many reasons I am proud to be an Army wife.
I am a military spouse. Five words, five powerful words.
My military spouse journey didn’t start out the way you may think it did. When I claimed my title as a military spouse, I was young, broken hearted and full of anger, confusion and regret.
So, We did a thing over here at Army Wife Network. We held an essay contest across all branches of the military as well as the Department of Defense civilian population. The contest theme was “Proud to Be” and we asked participants to describe why they are proud to be a spouse or loved one of a service member.
If you walk into a military family’s home during a PCS, you will find a good portion of their belongings squished into Ziplock bags, or stuffed into large, plastic totes. These items are an absolute necessity to keep liquids from leaking, and objects to remain clean, protected, organized, and maybe even color-coded. I sincerely love Ziplocks and totes! I can’t imagine my life without the use of them…because they are not only a necessity during our PCSes, but they are also still a part of my daily life.
We refer to spouses that have been around this military life awhile as a seasoned spouse. Kathleen brings you this week’s Milspouse Empowerment Moment, where she talks about what makes a seasoned spouse, and get ready– things are about to get spicy!
