Many people believe that the most magical time of year is Christmas, which seems to start a week earlier every year. Especially during deployments where you feel a little less jolly. And by a little less jolly, I mean l almost dropkicked a lighted snowman display across Target because I heard Josh Groban’s version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” one too many times this holiday season. I refrained, however, because I didn’t want to spill my venti peppermint mocha.
I’m not a monster.
Pretty much every military installation has drama. When spouses get to know each other, it can sometimes turn into something similar to a high school club. Not always does this occur, but there are some military spouses out there that like drama. From families being broken apart, to others being lonely and left out, it comes in all shapes and forms. A home in a foreign country.
I don’t know if I should apologize for getting the tune stuck in your head or keep singing the lyrics of the well-known Disney World ride, but either way, I bet you’re humming along to “It’s a Small World” because…it’s a small world after all.
As a kid that grew up as a “Disney brat,” I knew the song (and ride) backward and forward. I knew all the little languages within this magical-themed ride focusing on our similarities across the globe as opposed to our differences.
For those of you who’ve experienced myriad successful and not-so-successful Family Readiness Groups (FRGS) throughout your military journey, don’t fret because this is totally the norm!

There are a lot of layers to military spouse life.
It’s kind of like an onion. (Or, as Donkey from the movie Shrek insists, it’s like a parfait. Which sounds delicious. But I digress.)
Seriously, so many layers. It isn’t like the romantic homecoming love stories in the movies. Sure, we have our moments, but real life military marriage requires a lot more than a long kiss that makes your toes curl.
