Newsflash: Things are always changing in military spouse life.
Okay, so maybe that doesn’t classify as “breaking news.” More like “Well, yeah… that’s no surprise.”
But since things are constantly changing at AWN, we want to try and stay contemporary, and thus we would like to introduce a fresh, shiny, new blog series called “Forward, March!”
I always knew that having a military family was important, but holy cow, I’ve never been more thankful for mine.
Sure, I was thankful for my neighbors who let me sit in their house for hours on a holiday morning when I locked myself out and my husband was away training.
Can you believe that you found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? The zinger is that they’re in the military! But, you’re in love; you can make it through anything.
Many people have no idea what it means to marry a service member. While you’re planning the rest of your life, there are a few things that you should know about marrying a service member:
Moving is almost always a given with military life. Quite frankly, I’ve been lucky to avoid it for our entire 10-year marriage with the exception of a move into a larger home, a total of five minutes from our first home.
Until now.
We’re unexpectedly PCSing 14 hours away. New state. New people. New everything.
As a kid, I remember my parents and grandparents saying, “I remember where I was when…”
Where they were when they heard that John F. Kennedy or Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated or that we landed on the moon—these monumental, life-changing events that shaped the trajectory of our nation and culture.
I have a couple of my own.
Last week, my civilian neighbor stopped by with a bottle of wine and asked if she could (and I quote) “be on my Deployment Team?” My neighbors here in Texas (mostly civilians at this duty station) are aware that my husband is downrange, but this was a first for me.
I asked her what she thought my “Deployment Team” was, and she replied, “You know, the one that cooks for you, watches your kids, and just keeps you from crying all the time.”
