Two of the greatest struggles military spouses have during a PCS are finding a productive work life and connecting with friends in their new communities, especially over the last 12 to 14 months. But, have you noticed the lines between networking for work and meeting new friends have blurred thanks to Zoom, Clubhouse, LinkedIn, and other telework and social platforms?
PCS
If you are PCSing this year, then you’ve come to the right place!
Here at Mission: Milspouse, we’ve faced our fair share of relocations, DITYs, government moves, overseas stints, and everything in between. We’ve been there and done that, and we have the stickers to prove it.
With all that experience, we know how stressful it can be. Packing and loading mean moving all of your belongings—special things, irreplaceable things—and none of us really want things broken or damaged. While we can’t ensure there won’t be casualties of PCS, we can help you prepare to make the move a little smoother.
Check out all of our blog post pertaining to all things PCS. Get ready for some practical tips AND insight into experiences of those who have been there, moved that.
Make the Best of A New Duty Station
My husband gave me a profound reminder today: “No duty station is ever as good or as bad as everyone says it is.”
Think about that a moment. Part of this statement may be disappointing and seem negative, but hopefully some of it encourages and offers hope.
5 Tips for Smooth HHG Delivery
You left your duty station a week or more ago. You’ve had some cozy days in a hotel, and one morning you wake up deciding you are over the #HotelLife and really can’t wait to get into your new home.
And you’re in luck. It’s move-in day.
The movers call to say they’re ready to deliver your belongings. They can be at the address you gave them within the hour.
While you’re on the phone with the movers, you get a text from the on-post leasing office, confirming your appointment time to sign the paperwork and get the keys to your new home.
In lieu of the whole story (far too long a story to share on the blog), here are my top 5 tips for a smooth HHG delivery. (Yes, feel free to assume that these are things I wish I’d done):
Friendship: A Reason, Season, and a Lifetime
These are military friendships. They burn hard and fast. We don’t have time for long-term sustained experiences or the slow growth of friendship, and so our military life forces us to assume friendship “rules of engagement” and hard truths.
How to Find a Rental Home in a Tough Housing Market
The real estate market of 2021 has been reactive, to put it mildly. With the continued (and hopefully waning) pandemic, the real estate trends of low interest rates, low home inventory, and a seller’s market have meant home prices have seen their highest surge since 2006, according to Bloomberg.
3 Things I Will Do This PCS Season
PCS Season is upon us, and as I write this, I have just completed my first real PCS with the Army. During my last move, I just packed what I could and flew to my duty station. Before that, the duty station was within driving distance, so I packed up myself and I drove. This time, however, I had the Army move me because driving from Alaska to Tennessee did not sound enjoyable to me.
