PCS

If you are PCSing this year, then you’ve come to the right place!

Here at Mission: Milspouse, we’ve faced our fair share of relocations, DITYs, government moves, overseas stints, and everything in between. We’ve been there and done that, and we have the stickers to prove it.

With all that experience, we know how stressful it can be. Packing and loading mean moving all of your belongings—special things, irreplaceable things—and none of us really want things broken or damaged. While we can’t ensure there won’t be casualties of PCS, we can help you prepare to make the move a little smoother.

Check out all of our blog post pertaining to all things PCS. Get ready for some practical tips AND insight into experiences of those who have been there, moved that.

Packing Up Christmas, Packing Up Our Lives

Packing Up Christmas, Packing Up Our Lives

Every January of a PCS year, as I take down the ornaments from the Christmas tree and pack it all away, I imagine where I might be when it’s time to put it all back up. Have you ever done the same?

We’ve never had orders in January for our summer moves. Most times, we have already submitted our options, but we usually don’t see our RFOs until spring. The beginning of the year is always a time of mystery as we await that defining notification.

How Do I Approach Employment Gaps on My Resume?

How Do I Approach Employment Gaps on My Resume?

It’s that time again. Your service member received orders for another PCS, and on the neverending to-do list that accompanies the move is “find a new job.” You feel the dread and the flood of worry about having yet another gap on your resume.

I must have PCS on the brain because my family’s next relocation is just a few months around the corner. Thankfully, I can take my laptop and my job with me this time, but I’ve been in that uncertain situation before. It can be daunting to face job searching as a military spouse when we relocate so often.

Winter in Alaska

Winter in Alaska

Winter is in full swing up here in Alaska and has been since October when the first snow fell. With that being said, it’s my first full winter up here, and I was definitely not looking forward to it because I’d been in Texas for the past three winters. I’ve learned a lot since moving up here, especially about getting through the winter months in this climate.

Did Your Home Sell Too Fast? Here’s What to Do!

Did Your Home Sell Too Fast? Here’s What to Do!

For just about any home seller, the idea of their property selling too quickly is a problem they hope to have. But, for military sellers, a fast home sale could bring an extra layer of stress to an already taxing PCS.

The U.S. housing market continues to lean favorably toward home sellers, which means that if your home is priced well, there’s a good chance you’ll have multiple offers and likely a contract on the house in a short timeframe.

This is excellent news!

Unless your service member’s orders change and you’re no longer leaving the area.

A Strange Season of See Ya Laters

A Strange Season of See Ya Laters

My family would have PCS’d this summer if we were on our normal schedule. But what is “normal” this year anyway? The coronavirus swept over our world, leaving us with uncertainty and quickly grasping for a new normal. Plans we have all had over the past several months have been unraveled. We have postponed, rescheduled, all out cancelled, and been ever flexible with our activities, events, vacations, and PCS orders. A military life forces us to be flexible and deal with last minute changes somewhat gracefully. But this year?

This year…well, it is a whole new drill for us all.

Pandemic PCSing

Pandemic PCSing

Sometimes it is hard to believe that we are already this far into a pandemic. I never imagined that’s what 2020 would look like. And frankly, I’m pretty ready for this year to end. Sometimes I find it difficult to imagine how life has to keep moving forward even though it feels like everything must be put on hold.

My husband is currently at recruiting school, and we are planning to move before the year is over. (We were supposed to move in June, but the stop order put that to an end.) He hasn’t been there long, so I am still waiting to find out where we are moving to.
