One of the only certain things for a military family is uncertainty. Building a sense of community is an essential part of military life, especially when other family members may be hundreds or thousands of miles away. Strong communities are a place where your family can feel safe and supported and thrive.
We’ve been settling into our new home over the last month, and I have personally been up to quite a few projects.
Many military families choose not to paint the interior of their homes due to the temporary nature of most assignments, but there is another easy way to use paint and update your space after a PCS!
Okay, so I wrote about my top 10 things I’ll miss about Korea. What a lovely reflection of our three-year tour. It’s only fair that I write about the 10 things I’ve missed about America, in no particular order. Why 10? Because I don’t have the time to write a top 100 list right now.
The summer season is sweating our way, but for many military families, summertime is not evocative of sandy beaches, or big boats, or even over-glamorized stay-cations. Rather, the approaching summer months herald the arrival of the 18-wheeler moving truck. The truck itself is neither problematic nor challenging; it is the effort required to engage with the truck at both the departure and the destination locations that is duly daunting to military families—most often, the military spouse.
You may be thinking, “’Find the magic?’ Magic is for kids.”
I say you are wrong!
Do you ever dread moving? Maybe it’s the anticipation for orders or wondering if where you end up next is a place you will want to be. PCSing seems to come with so many unknowns that it’s hard not to have a little bit of anxiety about what things will be like. Because, let’s face it, every PCS is pretty much a new start: A new house, a new group of friends, a new city. Or maybe they’re old hat if you’ve visited or lived there before. Although, that’s not to say that even old hat doesn’t have its own challenges sometimes.
