As a photographer, I’ve discovered a stunning connection between capturing the perfect shot and navigating life.
It all comes down to focus. In the same way I adjust the lens of my camera to capture a sharp and clear subject, we can shape our lives by concentrating on the positive.
When we direct our attention to love, kindness, and gratitude, the world transforms before our eyes.
Our minds become clearer, and we begin to appreciate the splendor that surrounds us more fully.
Like a well-composed photograph improves the image we have to share, a positive mindset uplifts our spirits and impacts those around us.
In both photography and life, it’s crucial to eliminate distractions and negative thoughts.
By cropping out the things that bring us down, we allow ourselves to grow and flourish. This reminds me of the Apostle Paul’s words in Philippians 4:8:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—[focus] on such things.”
This powerful verse encourages us to focus our thoughts on life’s positive and uplifting aspects.
Just like a photographer carefully composes a shot by adjusting the lens to highlight the subject, we can intentionally direct our minds toward the true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy aspects of life.
By doing so, we foster a mindset that promotes joy, and gratitude, leading to a more fulfilling and purposeful journey.
Focusing on the positive doesn’t mean ignoring challenges or ugliness.
It’s about adequately exposing the darker areas while focusing on the main subject. Acknowledging difficulties, or confronting evil is essential, but we should never let evil overshadow the joy that exists alongside it.
Through my journey as a Chaplain and a photographer, I’ve learned that a positive perspective enhances my art and enriches my life.
It allows me to find beauty in the simplest things and to approach challenges with a more positive mindset.
Finally, just as a well-focused camera lens can capture a stunning photograph, a mind focused on positive things can create a beautiful and fulfilling life.
By concentrating on the true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy aspects of life, we are empowered to overcome obstacles and cherish the moments that matter most.
So let’s practice the art of focusing on the positive, allowing it to illuminate and enrich our lives, to create masterpieces framed through the lens of joy and gratitude.
