Military OneSource: Your Resource for Health and Wellness

What is Military OneSource?

Military OneSource offers a variety of resources and information to members of the military community, including active-duty service members, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and their family members.

The services offered through OneSource range from help with taxes to employment assistance, and many topics in between!

One of the major areas that Military OneSource offers support in is health and wellness, including mental health.

 

Below are just a few of the ways Military OneSource can help!

 

Support through the phases of military life

Military OneSource is there for you and your family, with assistance for basic training all the way through transitioning from the military to civilian life. Some of these resources include:

  • Information for those who are new to the military: help with moving, finding housing, navigating Tricare, educational benefits, and more
  • Support through deployment: including before, during, and after deployment, webinars for family members, help with managing finances, and counseling services
  • Information for spouses, including resources for living on base, and employment and education support
  • Resources for parents: support for new parents, information on how to find child care, and resources for kids and teens
  • Resources for families with special needs: including information on the Exceptional Family Member Program and special education resources
  • Relationship support: including resources for building and maintaining healthy relationships and counseling information

 

Confidential Counseling Resources

 

Another resource Military OneSource provides is confidential counseling for service members and their families.

This resource can help reduce stress, develop life skills and resilience, and improve overall well-being.

Counseling is available through several different avenues, including over the phone, through live chat, or in-person or online consultations. This counseling is provided free of charge, and can be accessed

 Health and Wellness Resources

 

Good health is critical for military readiness, and for service members to be able to perform their responsibilities both at work and at home.

It is also important for the rest of the family, which is one of the major areas that Military OneSource offers support in is health and wellness, including mental health.

These include:

  • Information on healthcare, including Tricare, the VA, access to health and wellness coaching, and assistance for individuals with TBI and PTSD
  • Nutrition and fitness resources
  • Mental health resources, including the Military Crisis Line, support for victims of abuse, and resources for individuals with substance use disorders
  • Programs to support wounded warriors and their caregivers, including emotional health support and information on how to access accommodations
  • Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs, including fitness resources

Author

  • Heather is originally from Virginia, and met her husband while she was working as a health educator at the Army Wellness Center at Fort Liberty. Since getting married in 2016, they have lived in Fayetteville, NC, Washington, D.C., Davenport, IA, and Austin, TX, and currently live in New Mexico. Heather has a background in health education and research, and has a Master’s in Public Health. She has worked with multiple local health departments and nonprofits, and much of her career has been spent working on issues that impact the military community. In 2019, she was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara medal for this work. She currently works for the New Mexico Alliance of Health Councils, where she is able to utilize her public health background to help people throughout the state stay healthy. She is passionate about helping other spouses navigate military life, especially in regards to health and wellness. In her free time, Heather enjoys traveling, yoga, embroidery and other fiber arts, and spending time with her husband and three rabbits
