6 Moving Tips for Single Parent Service Members

Being a single parent has its challenges, but when you are also a service member in the midst of PCSing, the challenges are compounded. Frequent moves can be tiresome, and one way to make PCSing more fun is to find the adventure in the moment.

Here are six tips to help ease the stress of relocating to a new duty station.

Origins of the term “Military Brat”

Origins of the term “Military Brat”

The traditional reference to military children as “brats” has always bothered me, way before becoming a military spouse. I remember feeling uneasy when I heard the new kids at school being called “brats.” Being called a brat wasn’t the nicest of things to call people, especially from a kid’s perspective. Families Unite!

Families Unite!

April is the Month of the Military Child and that makes me happy!

During the past 12 years of helping military families stay connected and close, I’ve come to meet and cherish many military children. We’ve worked and played together, and I swear, their laughter is louder and their eyes are more “sparkly,” probably because they come from a proud culture.

But, I also know that their tears come from unknown places down deep.

Making Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Home

Making Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Home

Thinking back to my childhood some of my fondest memories are the times I spent with my mom in the kitchen. I have an image etched into my memory of me standing in my “spot” at the end of the counter, watching my mom cook dinner. I also smile when I remember making snickerdoodle or spritz cookies with her. It’s one of the ways I learned to cook – by watching her while we talked. This is why I love to cook and want to create those same memories with my children.

For the Love of 550 Cord

I did not grow up in a military family. My dad was drafted during Vietnam but was out of the military before I was born. I lived in the same house for 18 years, all the way until I left for college. I didn’t know any military families growing up.
