AWTR Show #925: Homeschooling Teens

Homeschooling teens during the middle and high school years can feel overwhelming but can also be a blessing for both parent and teen. By homeschooling during these years, you can give your teen the individual attention they need to thrive academically and socially. Additionally, you can customize their learning experience to fit their unique needs and interests.

And the good news is that you do not have to know it all – you can learn alongside your kids. There are so many resources out there that can help you teach your kids (some programs do it all for you). When you homeschool teens, you gain a special bond with them that can continue into adulthood.

Help! I’m Road Tripping Alone with the Kids!

I miraculously survived a road trip recently, where I, alone, took my four children to visit family and friends. We traveled through eight different states, stretching roughly 2,810 miles (not including the miles in between to pull off and use the travel potty, take an off-route break for gas and food, and visit extra family and friends outside of the main destinations) and we took 18 days to do it all.

AWTR Show #916: How to End Summer Break with a Bang

August is upon us, which means that soon school will be starting. So for this week’s Milspouse Empowerment Moment, Amber is talking to us about how to end summer break with a bang. And she has tips for everyone. From those who have just PCSed into a new location, those who have been at a location for a while, those going to school, and those who are homeschooling.

Joyful Patriots

Independence Day never seems quite right unless I attend a good ‘ol downtown parade. We haven’t had opportunities to attend any in the past several years; but, this year, I heard about one in a nearby town that supposedly was this town’s “thing.” It’s a big to-do, drawing in thousands of people from all over, no matter how hot it gets. I was going to have to attend as the solo parent with the children, so I debated whether I wanted to fight the chaos and heat. But I remembered how much I enjoyed Fourth of July parades as a child, and I wanted my children to experience the same joyful events.

AWTR Show #910: Navigating Postpartum Life Without Your Spouse

Postpartum life is difficult, but when you throw in there having to do it without your spouse, it gets even harder. For this week’s Milspouse Empowerment Moment, Brooklyn shares with us how she is navigating postpartum life without her spouse. Even if your spouse is around – there are still tips in here for you. And don’t forget, you are doing great!

Postpartum as a Military Spouse

Scrolling through Facebook, I am flooded with pictures of families smiling, kids playing, and other new moms with captions reading, “heart full.” I must stop scrolling because I can feel the tears coming down my face again. I had a baby 5 weeks ago, and I should be more like the photos I see of smiling faces. But most days, it takes all the strength I have to get out of my room. The dark side of having a baby that I was not prepared for was Postpartum Depression as a military spouse; especially when your service member is away.

AWTR Show #904: Goodbye, Summer Slide

If you’re a parent of a school-aged child, then this week’s Milspouse Empowerment Moment is for you. Amanda B. has been in education for the past ten years (and a classroom teacher for 7 of those). Wanna say Goodbye, Summer Slide? The summer slide is when students forget what they learned the previous year. Amanda gives us tips to help our kids start the school year off on the best foot possible.
