AWTR Show #700: The USO/Maxwell House Video Series

Of those the USO serves, military spouses are one of the most overlooked groups, with an unemployment rate of at least four times higher than the national average, according to the company. Maxwell House and the USO are shining a light on the stories of hard-working military spouses by underscoring the unique needs and challenges they face. Through the generosity of Maxwell House, military spouses will be supported through programs like USO Pathfinder and Coffee Connections. Additionally, they’ve created a video series addressing the military spouse unemployment issue and Lakesha Cole, a Jacksonville business woman and military spouse, was recently featured in the national Maxwell House video. She’s here to talk more about the USO/Maxwell House video series.

Hope For The Warriors was founded by military families stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in 2006 as they witnessed firsthand the effects war imparts on service members and their families. This organization believes those touched by military service can succeed at home by restoring their sense of self, family, and hope. Nationally, Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources. In this episode, Brianne Sampson of HFTW will discuss how the nonprofit specifically targets issues that come with PTSD.

Gary Profit, the senior director of military programs for Walmart, here to talk about the Military Spouse Career Connection program. Just six months after launching in November 2018, Walmart is announcing that the company has already hired nearly 6,000 military spouses. The program gives hiring preference to military spouses who seek employment with Walmart or Sam’s Club.
