The Gifts of a Military Spouse

The list is truly endless for what a gift it is to be a military spouse. Personally, my husband is in the Space Force so we can start with the fact that he deploys to space! How cool is that?

Some fun bragging rights are just the beginning of what I get as a spouse and I cannot wait to show off all of the neat things that come with my title and to share my story with all of you.

I have been with my husband for about 10 years now and he has been in the military for 11 years, so almost his entire career! I get to visit new places and Iove that. I decided to stick with it and marry the man.

What does this mean for me?

What’s next? The gift of babies of course! We had our first baby, and then a year later we found out we were expecting number two AND a deployment.

There really is no better way to find out you are pregnant than with a deployment looming in the next two days. (Insert sarcasm here)

I have always looked up to the ladies who have the cutest pregnancy announcements and I knew I was the luckiest girl alive (insert sarcasm again) when he announced he was leaving with two weeks’ notice.

I held up a sign at home and he held up a sign in Kuwait announcing our little bundle of joy.  After I posted on social media, I know everyone was doing the math in their head. “Wait, didn’t he leave roughly 12 weeks ago? How far along is she?”

I loved the wheels turning in people’s heads. 🙂

Having a one-year-old and being pregnant was incredibly rough as I did not have easy pregnancies.

My toddler would rub my back while I threw up, but thank goodness for the best gift of all…..

TRICARE!

No sarcasm inserted here, TRICARE has truly been a gift. I was in and out of the hospital, had an in-home nurse come take care of me, and a long list of medications all taken care of by the best insurance on planet earth.

We had our two kids and decided to not have any more. We were finally content in our lives with our beautiful house, great neighborhood, wonderful school…. Stop!

Time to move!

Pick up your family and get ready because you are getting stationed in Hawaii!

YES! I will gladly pick up and go to the beach! Sell the furniture, get the dog vaccinated, get everything in order, then WAIT!

Oops, we messed up and you’re are actually not moving to Hawaii.

It’s okay though, because this is the third time they have changed their minds on duty stations. It is so fantastic to think you’re going somewhere then have to quickly change plans, find a new house, and plan accordingly (Sarcasm is back). It is the gift that keeps me on my toes!

So, we go to our next duty station, start life over, make new friends, start new jobs, and adjust because it’s what we do as spouses and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In all seriousness, our journey has had its share of challenges, but I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be the partner of someone in service, providing our children with an inspiring role model.

We learn to roll with the punches and are grateful for everything the military has given our family.
