Welcome to the club….It’s a BOY!!!
All ten fingers and ten toes of perfection; our first grandchild was born this past October.
It’s a surreal feeling that is hard to put words to. Instant love and excitement, a little bit of fear, but a sense of pride knowing that the life you supported and shaped will now carry on your family memories to a new generation.
As military grandparents to a new Army kid it is hard to watch from afar.
We haven’t been able to go to their duty station for our first visit, but we are anxiously waiting for our trip to come.
It’s hard to balance the desire to check-in several times a day, while giving them space (and sleep).
Hearing about sleepless nights and not being able to pop in to provide relief is a bit heart breaking.
We know how hard it is for Army families with newborns.
Knowing firsthand what it is like to be at a duty station with no family nearby and a newborn I can sympathize with our daughter-in-law and son.
But they are ROCKING IT!
I am so happy that the military changed their policy on maternal and paternal leave.
The new policy went into effect back in April of 2022. After a new birth, stillbirth, or miscarriage, both parents are eligible to take leave from the Army. Twelve new policies are part of the Parenthood, Pregnancy and Postpartum Army Directive.
Now our son can get extra time off as they start their parenthood journey.
Who knows, maybe the stars will align, and we’ll all be within driving distance one day.
But till then, the convenience of technology will keep us connected. For all the other mil-grandparents out there, what do you do to stay connected to your grands?
All the ideas are welcome!
Editor’s Note: The Mission:Milspouse Family would like to extend our CONGRATULATIONS to the Dill Family on their blessings. This Editor would also like to say WELCOME to the Club to Rebecca and Mike. Being a “Cat-G” is my favorite title!
