Aid Available for Struggling Veterans and Military Families in New York and Texas

It seems difficult to get people to agree on anything, but with some degree of certainty, no one would disagree that 2020 has been a difficult year. And difficult is probably an understatement.

We’re in the middle of a crippling pandemic, which has resulted in job losses, plummeting incomes, and overwhelming stress and anxiety. Post-9/11 veterans and military families have been hit especially hard by the hardships and stresses of the year.

Hope For The Warriors has searched diligently to find extra means to support those in need during the pandemic. Fortunately, we have discovered additional help in two states: New York and Texas.

Through Hope For The Warriors, the New York-based Mother Cabrini Health Foundation and the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans Assistance will assist financially vulnerable post 9/11 veterans and their families to reduce incidents of food insecurity and threats to stable housing related to the on-going pandemic.

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation awarded Hope For The Warriors a grant to bolster HOPE’s Critical Care Coordination services to New York-based post-9/11 veterans and military families that are struggling financially during the pandemic with temporary financial assistance for items related to:

  • rent/mortgage
  • utility bills
  • groceries
  • car payments

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is a private nonprofit with the mission to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable New Yorkers, bolster the health outcomes of targeted communities, eliminate barriers to care, and bridge gaps in health services. The Foundation—which is named in memory of a tireless advocate for immigrants, children, and the poor—provides flexible support for new and innovative approaches that enhance health and wellness across New York.

Thanks to the Texas Veterans Commission grant, Texas-based post 9/11 veterans and their families can apply for similar needs through Hope For The Warriors and request financial assistance for needs such as:

  • transportation
  • rent/mortgage
  • mental health services
  • childcare

The Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grant program awards reimbursement grants to eligible charitable organizations, local government agencies, and veterans service organizations that provide direct services to Texas veterans and their families.

Since 2009, the Texas organization has awarded more than $100 million to help more than 250,000 veterans and their families.

The organization has stayed the course with our country’s post-9/11 veteran population as physical wounds healed, but emotional wounds still needed care. Since its inception, Hope For The Warriors has served over 159,200 through a variety of support programs. For more information, visit their website, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
