Study.com: A Military Spouse’s Experience

There is a story that resurfaces from time to time in my family. The big punchline is that when I was in grade school, sometime around when report cards were issued, I asked my parents what would happen if I got a B. That about sums me up as a student.

I strive to do well, and as I have grown a bit older, I am quite aware that I am motivated by learning.

Recently, I have had the opportunity to do some learning that I feel was particularly eye-opening and valuable as a military spouse.

My opportunity was to use Study.com for some practice tests, and then work through the site using their available study materials related to the practice tests I had chosen.

4 Tips to Becoming a One-Car Family

We didn’t have an option to bring a car with us to our new OCONUS location, unless of course we wanted to pay to ship it and have it brought up to Japanese emissions standards and drivability requirements on our own dime.

So, no option, really.

An Extra Crusty Little Pie

My mother would be shocked at the state of my refrigerator. I can count the edible items currently in there (aside from condiments) on one hand. My mother’s refrigerator has never looked like this in her whole life, if I had to guess. Somehow though, I have the ingredients on hand to make a pie—with a homemade crust, no less.

My Hearing Loss

Last month, I had a few harder-than-usual days emotionally. Those emotionally off days were both tied to the same thing, and over the past 15 years, there’s been more than two hard days tied to that thing. Hearing loss. Early onset hearing loss.

Early onset is pretty key, so don’t be mistaking me for my grandmother’s age. I’m 35 years young, and that’s part of what bothers me with regards to my hearing loss. I was 20 when I was first fitted for hearing aids.

2019 “All-Star” Dad Award: Make Your Nomination Today

When I was growing up, my dad and I always played the “How much do I love you?” game. It starts off with saying, I love you, and then comes the question of: But how much do you love me? We’d go back and forth saying, “I love you this much!” as we motioned with our arms until we couldn’t stretch them out any further. The game always ended the same way.

“I love you more,” I’d say.

And Dad always replied, “I love you more than more!”

Love between family members is always worth celebrating, and many times we chose to honor those we love in some way. This year, consider honoring your dad or a dad you know with a chance to become 2019’s “All-Star” Dad.

Restricted HHG Weight with an Allocation for Humor

The hacky sack sat plump and unremarkable on top of our entertainment shelf. Our HHG were delivered just yesterday, and of all things, this hacky sack brought the best smirk to my face. Sure, it was absolutely hilarious when our cat shoved himself headfirst halfway through the hole at the top of one of the hanging clothes boxes, but the humor I found in noticing this hacky sack was another thing altogether.

As this marked our third time PCSing together, I won’t claim we’re experts, but we’ve been down this road twice before.
