Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and I thought I would share a little activity we did last year which I intend to keep as a new family tradition: A Thankful Tree.

One of the most important parts of supporting your service member as they serve our country is “holding down the fort” (See also: running a smooth, loving, and supportive home life for you and your family, while keeping all things going in your service member’s absence). Easy peasy, right? Sometimes, not so much.
With this category, we cover everything behind the scenes, such as organization, communication, marriage, parenting, overcoming trials, and just some good ole fashioned humor.
Join us as we embark on figuring out the home-life balance as a milspouse and find ways to thrive and excel! No matter what your life at home looks like, one of our Experience Bloggers or Command Team members has probably been in a similar situation and is here to share their triumphs, lessons, and laughs along the way.
Halloween is Here Again
My oh my, how 2015 has flown by. I can hardly believe it’s already time for Halloween! While my husband is in Korea, I’m celebrating by decorating the outside of my house in preparation for passing out candy.
Recognizing and Reporting Cyberbullying
October is traditionally a month where people turn their attention to frightening stories or horrifying images as they anticipate Halloween. While goblins and ghouls parade around town, it’s important to take a look at one of the real horrors plaguing our sons and daughters. No, it isn’t make believe tales of witch doctors or vampires, it’s the prevalence of bullying (and cyberbullying) among our youth, which has led to the designation of October as National Bullying Prevention Month.
Domestic Violence Happens Here, Too
I’m currently pursuing my master’s in social work and had the privilege of doing a field placement with a local domestic violence agency working with domestic violence offenders. It was an eye-opening experience, to be certain, but also a very rewarding one. Now, I’m at a different agency with a different purpose (an emergency shelter for children), but the domestic violence cases still roll in. It’s heartbreaking work and full of as many tragic endings as happy ones, but I’m grateful to be doing it.
5 Spooky Books for Halloween
As AWN’s resident book nerd, I’m back to suggest five books for you to read to get into the Halloween spirit! The leaves are beginning to turn, days are getting shorter, and Halloween draws ever closer, so come sit around the fire and find a great book based on your favorite type of scary story.
5 Go-To Recipes for Back to School
My husband once said to me, as I grimaced and tossed what was left of my dinner in the trash, “You know, you don’t eat much of your own cooking.” That night had seen the creation of yet another failed Pinterest recipe (or maybe that was how it was supposed to taste, who knows, but whatever the case, the result was not good). I turned to him and replied, “I’d eat more of my own cooking if it was any good.”
